MOA History
The original name of the association was Michigan Umpires Association. Donald Moore and three other gentlemen founded the Association in 1955. The governing body, (President Secretary, Treasurer) were all being held by different individuals.
In 1978 Mr. Moore decided to retire from officiating and asked his friend, Dick Weiss, to run for president of the association. Mr. Weiss agreed and was elected by the membership as president of Michigan Umpires Association. In 1982 Mr. Weiss became sole owner of Michigan Umpires Association, and held the positions of President, Secretary and Treasurer. The name was changed to Michigan Officials Association. A Board of Directors was formed and bylaws adopted.
Today the association is under the same leadership. We conduct training classes for new officials in Football, Basketball, Baseball and Softball before each new season begins. The Association is very proud of its training program.
Michigan Officials Association has officials now officiating in little league, high school varsity and college levels.
